Dorvan Lar was the chief Operations instructor at Starfleet Academy. He served as an instructor for over 20 years after a successful career out in the fleet. He had two passions; chess and Terran motorcycles. His pride and joy was an early 21st-century Ducati he'd personally restored. He died in an accident on that very same bike.
Zira Temkin was a second-year Cadet at the time of Commander Lar's accident. She was training to be a pilot, but after an emergency Joining with the Lar symbiont, acquired extensive knowledge of starship operations. Was offered Dorvan's rank and position at the Academy but refused. As a compromise, accepted an immediate commission as Ensign and assignment to the USS Pathfinder as an Operations officer.
Psychological Profile
Symbiont is patient, but the host is not. Curious about everything. Creative but shy about performing. Deplores violence. Varessa, Lar's second host, killed a suspect in self-defense, and the act scarred her for life.
The Lar symbiont had five consecutive female hosts before Dorvan. Although Zira was training remotely with the Trill Symbiosis Commission, her Joining came rather suddenly. This creates confusion as she now finds herself subordinate to officers she mentored as Dorvan.
She finds solace in music and figure skating. She wants to make her own mark in the world and not be known for the accomplishments of her symbiont's previous host.

Notes
Early in her new Joining, Zira finds her fifth host, Andra, her favorite. Zira loves music and wishes she had a voice like Andra's. She has also decided to read all of Ulia and Callera's books. She likes Callera's fiction but strongly disagrees with Ulia's political writings. Varessa and Eliana left Lar with a strong sense of right and wrong. Eliana was the only previous host to marry, and the Joining ended the relationship.
As of her assignment to Pathfinder, Zira has lost touch with her family. She called to inform them that she'd been Joined and has not spoken to them since. She has an older brother, Malen, who she admires very much.
She and Lar both resent Dorvan getting himself killed. She's grateful for the opportunity to be Joined, but her personality and Lar's clash. Despite appearing meek and quiet, she is very strong-willed, so Lar doesn't always get his way.
